‘An Elephant & Piggie Biggie!’ by Mo Willems

What is better than one book by Mo Willems (beloved children’s author)? A compilation of FIVE of Mo Willems books.

No one will have to worry about misplacing one of these treasured stories because this big book will not just disappear into a pile. It definitely stands out.

Included are such classics as: “Today I Will Fly,” “Watch Me Throw the Ball,” “Can I Play, Too?” “Let’s Go for a Drive” and that classic “I Really Like Slop!” Each story is funny but also teaches something about life.

For example, “Can I Play Too?” features Elephant and Piggie playing catch. Their friend, Snake, wants to play, too. When they hesitate, he thinks they don’t want to play with him.  They assure him it’s just because he doesn’t have arms and how would one catch a ball without arms? Snake pretends to be shocked that he doesn’t have arms — it’s cute. They try to play ball, but snake, not having any arms, can’t catch the ball. The final solution is wonderful, creative, and makes everyone happy. Just like all the stories.

This would be a great gift for anyone with a new baby or toddler. These stories are fabulous first readers. The text is simple, each and every story is about friendship and kindness, and kids love the simple drawings.

Please note: This review is based on the final, hardcover book provided by Hyperion Books for Children, the publisher, for review purposes.
