Affiliate Links Disclosure

I was recently approached about including some affiliate links to books I review. Including links to purchase the books would provide a small fee to me, and there is no additional charge to those who click on the links for anything they purchase. I thought a lot about whether to do this, and I decided that this extra income could be used for donations to several of the animal rescue groups I support all over the world.

So this site contains affiliate links for companies I use, trust and recommend, such as Amazon, iBooks, Kobo, and other book sellers. If you click to buy a book or other item through the affiliate links, I may earn a small commission. This will not affect your purchase price. You will not pay a penny more by going through these links. These affiliate links are carefully selected based on my experience with these service providers.

As I often mention on social media, people need to be really careful about where they donate their money. Too often, pleas for money are from scammers. Scammers even copy posts about animals in need and create accounts with fake names to claim they rescued that dog and should get the pledges. Often the real rescue loses out because of that.

All monies I earn from affiliate links will be donated to rescues I know and trust. They include:

Placing Paws of Libertyville I volunteer with this local rescue in many ways. When a friend and I drove to Florida many years ago and brought back four dogs, Placing Paws took them in. Placing Paws paid for one of the dogs, who had been hit by a car years earlier and had an injured leg that had not healed, to have her leg amputated. That’s what they do. Her adoption fee didn’t come close to covering her medical bills. I can’t say enough wonderful things about them and the people who work tirelessly, including an amazing veterinarian, with them. I volunteer for them by fostering, by working on applications, and by helping other fosters get supplies.

Fat Cat Rescue and Sanctuary is another local rescue I volunteer with. This cat rescue was started by a woman whose heart greatly exceeds her bank account. Kaye Larsen has over 350 cats on her beautiful land with a huge barn, a pond, a large outdoor area fenced in for feral cats with heated houses for winter. Inside the three-story barn are different rooms for cats with different needs. A senior feral cat I trapped outside before winter a few years ago resides in the “geriatric” room and has gotten gentle enough that volunteer can occasionally pet him. I don’t think he would have lasted another winter outside. The Chicago Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg wrote about Fat Cat. Their bills for food, litter, and medical care is astronomical.

Dream Team Angels Rescue in San Bernardino California. This rescue is run by a teacher and other women. She works to help the abandoned dogs in the San Bernardino shelter find homes. Too often those animals are euthanized for space (or for being shy or anxious). There are too many abandoned animals and not enough adopters. If you travel to California and would like to bring back an adoptable dog, please contact me! I would love to save some of those adorable dogs.

Redland Rock Pit Abandoned Dogs Project is a group in South Florida outside Miami that works diligently to feed and give fresh water to the many, many dogs and cats abandoned by the Everglades. Daily their volunteers go out to visit the dogs, check for chips, administer medication if needed, and provide food and water until the group can find rescues to take in the dogs and cats. If an animal is injured, they take it in. They rely on donations for the work they do. They also need foster homes in the Miami area so they can take in more animals from the fields and streets there. People get angry that they feed the dogs and leave them on the streets. But no one rescue can take in multiple dogs every single day, so they do the best they can. My own dog Lexi is one of the dogs I brought up from Florida that they had rescued.

India Street Paw, Inc. is a shelter supported by author Sarah Pekkanen. The story behind the rescue is touching as are her efforts to make sure that the dogs helped by this rescue in India continues to serve the street dogs there. Visit Sarah’s Facebook page and learn more about this wonderful rescue. In India, dogs live on the streets and rely on scraps for sustenance. This rescue also provides light-reflective collars for the street dogs so that they can be seen at night.
