Shelter workers neglect to change the status on a dog’s kennel card and a young dog may die because of it.

pkennelcardPenelope was pre-adopted, and her kennel card was changed to show that. But when the adopter didn’t show, the card was never changed back. So no one looking to adopt a dog paid any attention to Penelope because she had the words “adopted” written on her kennel card. Not once but five times. Those words covered the kennel card. It was obvious to all who visited the shelter that Penelope was safe.

Now the shelter is giving Penelope less than 24 hours to get adopted or rescued or she will be killed. Unless the shelter received an email by 9:00 am tomorrow, Friday March 3rd, Penelope will be euthanized.

Penelope is a young Australian cattle dog. She is only 46 pounds, and those who have met her say she is delightful. There are some discrepancies in her Facebook post, so anyone interested in saving the adorable dog should read the notes.

The volunteer notes about her state:

“Penelope is a cutie! She came right up to meet us and took treats nicely. She knows sit and was friendly. She had an I am adopted sign on her kennel this weekend and we think no one asked to see her due to that. She was pre adopted but the adopters changed their mind. She has one note that she lunged at a worker. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN WITH ANY OF US VOLUNTEERS ALL WEEKEND!!! She was great on a meet and greet yesterday. The notes state “3/1/17 6:02 P.M. I did a meet and greet with her, she did wonderful gave kisses on my face and hand. A little mouthy but nothing bad” She is listed as a 3 year old Aussie Cattle Dog. The person who found her said she was friendly too! She is spayed. She needs a home!! Please share!!”
