American Society of Journalists and Authors  Free resources for non-members, including freelance writer salaries and demographics, articles and advice about contracts. Membership costs $195 a year and includes benefits, such as online forums, paycheck reports, access to successful queries, a monthly newsletter and more. ASJA sponsors meetings and events for writers, many of which are open to the public, including the annual conference in NYC.  www.asja.org
